Hours Today: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Well worth a couple of hours to tour the museum. It's at the edge of downtown but easily walkable. Very professional exhibits but with so many rooms and sections, it would be easy to miss things. Might help to number rooms in an orderly way so a visitor would make sure not to miss anything. The museum is huge and has great exhibits on all types of mining, but especially on the mines of Colorado. Explanations, dioramas, scale models, and walk-through exhibits help us understand the various mining processes. Colorado has a rich mining history, and this museum does a great job of illuminating what went on in the past as well as current mining practices. It really helped me understand how mining shaped Leadville and surrounding areas. Highlights for me were the molybdenum mining exhibit and the life size walk-through mock ups of coal and gold mines. There’s a lot to see here, and it would take several hours to do it all. |
