We visited Crescent Lake as part of our visit to Olympic National Park. The lake is beautiful of course. The high point for us were the trails around Crescent Lake. We started with the Marymere Falls hike which starts out through a gorgeous rainforest with huge trees and ferns, moss draped branches to a short but steep climb to the falls. This was lovely. On the way back we noticed a sign for the Barnes Creek trail. We were the only people on this absolutely stunning trail. It felt like a magic forest: every shade of green, ferns, mosses and horsetails along the path and the most wonderful filtered green light. The trail stays by the brook and we walked along it for a while till it began to rise. The best part of the trail is by the brook - with sunlight filtering through the trees it felt like a forest primeval! Don't miss this trail - it is enchanting!
